Well, I left you on sunday morning, after having called the heli. What happened next? The chopper took 4 teams at take off, but shortly after they arrived the wind picked up, and starting was impossible. After 1 hour the wind dropped, it would have been possible to start, but simultaneously the fog enveloped the top of Generoso! Down by the lake, the weather was sunny and mild, more than 500 spectators were waiting for action: we had to invent something for them. Darts freestyle tournament, remote controlled acro helicopter demo by Lukas Riva (2008 World champion: really impressive!), jumps from the heli (the real one this time…) of skydivers (friends Paolone Franzi from Underground Club in Lugano and wellknown racecar driver Gabriele Gardel), BASE jumpers with their wingsuits (Felix Rodriguez, Cyril Planton e Sam Daven), Segway test rides, Ticinella kites for all kids. We did all our best to make the people happy while waiting for a 150 meters cloud base raising, that never came. Our one consolation, while in the whole Ticino huge thunderstorms were striking, a tiny part of southern Switzerland around Melano was spared, and we just got some drops of rain.

At 15:30 we finally decided to give up, and we got ready for the price giving ceremony. But exactly when we were ready to start, a huge storm came in, as an achievement of an unlucky week end, which started with a friday the 13th, and ended with the most rainy and cold August 15th of the century!

Ci eravamo lasciati domenica mattina, dopo aver chiamato l’elicottero. Cos’è successo in seguito? L’elicottero ha portato 4 team in vetta, ma appena dopo il vento si è intensificato, rendendo i decolli impossibili. Dopo 1 ora il vento è calato, sarebbe stato possibile cominciare, ma il solito cappello di nebbia è calato, avvolgendo il Generoso all’altezza della Bellavista! Giù al lago, il tempo era bello, c’erano più di 500 persone in trepidante attesa: dovevamo far qualcosa per loro. Gara di freccette molto…freestyle per grandi e piccini, dimostrazioni mozzafiato di Lukas Riva, campione del Mondo 2008 di elicottero radiocomandato acrobatico, salti dall’elicottero – quello vero, stavolta…- di paracadutisti, prove di Segway, gli aquiloncini di Ticinella. Ce l’abbiamo messa tutta per far felici grandi e piccini, aspettando quell’innalzamento della base delle nubi, di 150 metri, che non è mai avvenuto. Unica consolazione: mentre in tutto il cantone stava letteralmente diluviando, un piccolo lembo di Ticino a sud del Pontediga era risparmiato, e ci siamo presi solo qualche goccia di pioggia.

Alle 15:30 abbiamo finalmente deciso di gettare la spugna, preparandoci per la premiazione. Ma alle 5, quand’eravamo bell’e pronti, un’acquazzone si è scatenato anche sul Mendrisiotto, per coronare questo week end disgraziato, cominciato con un venerdì 13, e terminatosi con il Ferragosto più freddo e bagnato del secolo!
