That’s all folks / Pisat adoss l’uroc

Well, I left you on sunday morning, after having called the heli. What happened next? The chopper took 4 teams at take off, but shortly after they arrived the wind picked up, and starting was impossible. After 1 hour the wind dropped, it would have been possible to start, but simultaneously the fog enveloped the top of Generoso! Down by the lake, the weather was sunny and mild, more than 500 spectators were waiting for action: we had to invent something for them. Darts freestyle tournament, remote controlled acro helicopter demo by Lukas Riva (2008 World champion: really impressive!), jumps from the heli (the real one this time…) of skydivers (friends Paolone Franzi from Underground Club in Lugano and wellknown racecar driver Gabriele Gardel), BASE jumpers with their wingsuits (Felix Rodriguez, Cyril Planton e Sam Daven), Segway test rides, Ticinella kites for all kids. We did all our best to make the people happy while waiting for a 150 meters cloud base raising, that never came. Our one consolation, while in the whole Ticino huge thunderstorms were striking, a tiny part of southern Switzerland around Melano was spared, and we just got some drops of rain.

At 15:30 we finally decided to give up, and we got ready for the price giving ceremony. But exactly when we were ready to start, a huge storm came in, as an achievement of an unlucky week end, which started with a friday the 13th, and ended with the most rainy and cold August 15th of the century!

By the way, the weather forecast for next week end is: sunny, 30° celsius

Ci eravamo lasciati domenica mattina, dopo aver chiamato l’elicottero. Cos’è successo in seguito? L’elicottero ha portato 4 team in vetta, ma appena dopo il vento si è intensificato, rendendo i decolli impossibili. Dopo 1 ora il vento è calato, sarebbe stato possibile cominciare, ma il solito cappello di nebbia è calato, avvolgendo il Generoso all’altezza della Bellavista! Giù al lago, il tempo era bello, c’erano più di 500 persone in trepidante attesa: dovevamo far qualcosa per loro. Gara di freccette molto…freestyle per grandi e piccini, dimostrazioni mozzafiato di Lukas Riva, campione del Mondo 2008 di elicottero radiocomandato acrobatico, salti dall’elicottero – quello vero, stavolta…- di paracadutisti, prove di Segway, gli aquiloncini di Ticinella. Ce l’abbiamo messa tutta per far felici grandi e piccini, aspettando quell’innalzamento della base delle nubi, di 150 metri, che non è mai avvenuto. Unica consolazione: mentre in tutto il cantone stava letteralmente diluviando, un piccolo lembo di Ticino a sud del Pontediga era risparmiato, e ci siamo presi solo qualche goccia di pioggia.

Alle 15:30 abbiamo finalmente deciso di gettare la spugna, preparandoci per la premiazione. Ma alle 5, quand’eravamo bell’e pronti, un’acquazzone si è scatenato anche sul Mendrisiotto, per coronare questo week end disgraziato, cominciato con un venerdì 13, e terminatosi con il Ferragosto più freddo e bagnato del secolo!

Tra l’altro, la previsione per il prossimo fine settimana è: soleggiato, 30° gradi

Emergency plan / Piano d’emergenza

You won’t believe it!!! Conditions at take off are good, but a landslip is blocking the Monte generoso train for the day. So what? We called a heli to take the pilots at take off. We’re hard to die!!!

Da non credere!!! Le condizioni in decollo sono buone, ma una frana ha bloccato la linea della ferrovia Monte Generoso per la giornata. E allora? Abbiamo chiamato un elicottero per portare i piloti in vetta. Duri a morire!!!

Wet summer / Estate bagnata

Well well, saturday morning was dry, but take off was foggy and also windy. Finally Raul Rodriguez and Horacio llorens could complete the synchro run 1, finishing 2nd just 1 point behind Fly Schneik Team. Lucky Clowns are now 3rd and best Swiss.

Short before 11, having checked the weather situation, the flight director decided to avoid solo pilots from being washed, and instructed them to return to the base by train: some minutes later rain started, and just after lunch the pilots were set free for the rest of the day.

Sunday, last day, again special train going up at 07:45. Morning might be a bit dryer, but more rain is expected before noon. We hope at least we can complete a second synchro run. Stay tuned.

Sabato mattina ancora asciutto, ma il decollo era ventoso e in nebbia. Finalmente, Raul Rodriguez e Horacio Llorens potevano completare la loro prima prova, piazzandosi secondi a solo un punto da Fly Schneik Team. Lucky Clowns sono ora terzi e migliori degli svizzeri.

poco prima delle 11, dopo aver consultato l’evoluzione meteorologica, il direttore dei voli decideva di evitare una doccia involontaria ai piloti di singolo, istruendoli a tornare alla base in treno: qualche minuto più tardi la pioggia cominciava a cadere, ed appena dopo pranzo i piloti venivano liberati per il resto della giornata.

Domenica, ultimo giorno, nuova salita con treno speciale alle 07:45. La mattina potrebbe essere in gran parte asciutta, ma nuove precipitazioni sono attese già prima di mezzogiorno. Speriamo comunque di riuscire a completare una seconda prova di volo sincronizzato. Rimanete sintonizzati!

Day 1: 1 run solo and 1 run synchro / 1° giorno: 1 prova di singolo ed una a coppie

🙂 He he he, the weather was ok. Friday we had 1 run solo and 1 run synchro. After run 1, Hernan Pitocco is leading, followed by Felix Rodriguez and Horacio Loorens. In the synchro cathegory, Cyril Planton and Yoan Castagnoli (FRA) are 1st, Yves Berlowitz and Remo Niederer  (SUI) 2nd, and Josef Bauer and Axel Gudelius (GER) 3rd. But nothing is definitive, because Raul Rodriguez and Horacio Llorens will be allowed to re-run.

The weather forecast for saturday suggested us to anticipate the start of the competition: a special train organized by the Monte Generoso train company, allows us to start with run 2 solo at 09:00. Many thanks!!!

🙂 Alla bella faccia della sfiga e di Giove Pluvio, oggi si sono disputate una prova completa di solo ed una di sincronizzato. Teh, ciapa!
Dopo la prima prova, in testa Pitocco, davanti a Felix Rodriguez e Horacio Llorens. Nel sincro in testa i francesi Planton/Castagnoli, davanti agli svizzeri Berlowitz/Niederer ed ai tedeschi Bauer/Gudelius.Ma nulla è ancora deciso, poiché Raul Rodriguez e suo cugino Horacio Llorens potranno ripetere la prima prova.

La previsione meteo per sabato ci ha fatto decidere di anticipare l’inizio dei voli: un treno speciale organizzatoci dalla ferrovia Monte generoso SA, ci permette di iniziare la seconda prova già alle ore 09:00. Grazie!!!

Competition is running / La competizione è iniziata

22 out of 24 pilots have completed their solo run. Down by the lake the sun is shining, but unfortunately a fog cap keeps the pilots from taking off. We are waiting for improvement

Somebody said that the weather might be bad: we don’t believe it!!!!

Qualcuno ha detto che la meteo potrebbe non essere favorevole: non ci crediamo!!!

Getting ready / Quasi pronti

Only a few days to go. The pilots’ registration, now closed, was a huge success: all best pilots from Switzerland and 8 of the World Ranking Top 10 have confirmed their participation. A new record of teams participant to the synchro competition might be established. Pack your suitcase and be ready for the trip to Melano!

Mancano pochissimi giorni. Le iscrizioni dei piloti hanno avuto un enorme successo, tanto che delle selezioni si renderanno necessarie per scremare la lista dei partecipanti. Tutti i migliori piloti svizzeri, e 8 tra i primi 10 delle classifiche mondiali hanno confermato la loro partecipazione. Un nuovo record di coppie partecipanti ad una competizione di volo sincronizzato potrebbe essere stabilito proprio a Melano.
